Sloths are the slowest mammals in the world.
A sloth is way slower than for example a cheetah. Sometimes a sloth does not seem to move all day. Sloths are arboreal creatures. There are several species of sloths belonging to two families the three-toes slots and the two-toed sloths. They actually all have three toes on their hind legs but they have three and only two fingers on their hands, respectively. Three-toed sloths and two-toed sloths aren’t as closely related as one might think looking at them.
Two-toed sloths are somewhat larger than three-toed sloths. All sloths live in the jungles of South America in the wild. Sloths live up in the trees and only go to the ground to go to the bathroom. In spite of being arboreal, sloths apparently can swim reasonably well. Lots of creatures including algae live in a sloth’s fur. Sloths eat mostly leaves and their metabolism is very slow this is why they don’t move that fast and tend to sleep over ten hours a day.
It seems that many zoos have sloths on display, yet I had problems taking a picture of one as they tend to hide some places where one can only get a glimpse of one of their body parts or another.
