Delicate structures made of ice crystals that form on top of frozen bodies of water are usually referred to as frost flowers. If the frost forms on solid objects or on window glass it is usually referred to as hoar frost and window frost respectively. Casually they all can be called frost flowers.

Solar Eclipse in Toronto

Today there was a solar eclipse visible in most of North America. While Americans got to witness a total eclipse, up here in Canada we only got a partial one.
A lot of people have been preparing for the event with great anticipation while I had a rather causal attitude towards the whole eclipse watching thing.

A Rant Against Sugar

WARNING: This is a rant, the language may be stronger than usual on this blog, it has to be taken with a pinch of salt, but not sugar!

Yesterday I have just lost it while shopping for groceries. I was just about to buy some potato salad when I have discovered that one of the first ingredients was sugar.

When I said I rather not have it then, the attendant did not understand what my problem was since “they pretty much sugar into everything”.

I have just replied “because it is disgusting”.

Recently the TV Channel TVO has aired a documentary about the Cholesterol hysteria, and that is mostly based on faulty research.

The Simplicity of Curried Beans

Comfort food is something one eats for pleasure. I don’t like sweets (never did) and for me comfort food is usually something spicy. As a Hungarian I do think that sausages make a great meal almost any time thus they are a great comfort food, but sometimes you just want to eat something else.

While I do occasionally watch cooking shows, competitions, and other kind of food porn, when I am down I have never ever wished for a dish cooked by a chef that swears with a British accent.

To cheer me up I need something comforting, not fancy.
