Frilled Lizard

The frilled lizard, also known as the frilled dragon is a fascinating lizard resembling something from from the age of the dinosaurs.

The frilled lizard has a neck frill which is used for display when the animal feels threatened or gets excited by competitors. In such situations the frilled lizard stands on its hind legs and opens up the neck frill for a spectacular display of threat.

Frilled lizards in nature live in Australia and New Guinea.

Frilled lizards mainly eat insects and also prey on other small animals, but like most lizards they do also eat vegetables and fruits.

People do keep frilled lizards as pets and even breed them in captivity although they are still relatively rare in the pet trade.
