Red Ruffed Lemur


The red ruffed lemur is one of the two species of ruffed lemurs the other one being the black-and-white ruffled lemur. Like most lemurs red ruffled lemurs are endemic to Madagascar.

Ruffed lemurs are the largest lemurs. Red ruffled lemur mainly eat fruit (frugivores) as well as other plant parts.

Red ruffled lemurs are social animals and usually live in matriarchal groups consiting of a few individuals up to a few dozen.

These pictures were taken in the Veszprém Zoo where a group of red ruffed lemurs were frolicking outside, enjoying their spacious enclosure.
