Rhinoceros iguanas are large herbivorous lizards from the island of Hispaniola.

Rhinoceros iguanas are threatened in the wild, especially because their natural range is mostly limited to a few islands.

There are captive breeding programs in zoos to save the species.

Some people also keep rhinoceros iguanas as pets, some individuals became tame and good natures while others tend to bite. This large size lizard does need plenty of space and like most lizards appropriate basking lights.

Rhinoceros iguanas kept as pets are reported to be intelligent.

For most people it is probably inappropriate to keep rhinoceros iguanas as pets since they are struggling to survive in the wild, and it is not clear to me how well this species is capable of reproducing under the care of hobbyists. Also less tame specimens can pose a danger to their owners with their powerful jaws.
