Red-handed Tamarin

The red-handed tamarin is a small monkey native to South America.

Red-handed tamarins, also known as golden-handed tamarins are arboreal and spend most of their time up in the trees and vines. Red-handed tamarins are omnivorous and they eat fruits and flowers as well as small animals.

The pictures above were taken at the Budapest Zoo where the red-handed tamarins are housed together with the two-toed sloths in a geographically appropriate manner.

Like most monkeys, red-handed tamarins probably don’t make really good pets. Nevertheless some people do keep tamarin monkeys as pets, see the references below.
