When the ancient Greeks have invented democracy the people have actually wielded the power by means of ostracism and graphe paranomon.
These days all we are left with is an illusion that we have a say about who our next masters should be.

Don’t misunderstand me, I vote when it is necessary. Just oftentimes I wish I had an ostracon instead of a ballot.
