In Asian culture manadarin duck are a symbol for love and spousal fidelity. So it is a good thing that I have managed to take a picture of these two as a pair.

The male mandarin duck has a very colorful plumage and a red beak. The female mandarin duck has more modest colors and does not look like the male.

In the wild mandarin ducks are doing well in spite of some habitat destruction in their native East Asia.
In fact feral populations of mandarin ducks, descended from animal that escaped captivity, are now living in the UK, Ireland and in the United States.
